Social Media Landscape is constantly changing. If brands wish to be successful on these online mediums, the only way to go about is to adapt well to the challenges presented by these constant innovations. Instagram (photo-sharing site) and Pinterest (virtual pin board) present two such mediums that have previously not been used extensively for Marketing purposes. However, as Facebook and Twitter grow more and more competitive and the digital consumer becomes more savvy, many brands are testing new waters.
The Macallan, a premium Scotch whisky disteller, has only recently launches a photo competition on Instagram. Participants are asked to upload a photo of themselves with the whisky or something that represents their love for the brand using the hashtag #meandthemacallan. The top five pics will win a special prize from the distiller as well as being featured on The Macallan’s Twitter and Facebook pages. Click here to view the entries and cast your votes.
The airline, British Midland International (BMI), has launched their campaign #bmipinterestlottery campaign on Pinterest that turns “repinning” into a lottery style game of chance. They’ve set up five boards on their Pinterest account of five different locations: Beirut, Dublin, Marrakech, Moscow and Nice containing nice pins each. To win a chance of free bmi flights, users only have to repin a numbered image.
Like the lottery, Pinterest users can choose up to six numbers, by repinning up to six pins from any of the boards. Every week, one image will be chosen as the winning number as it were, and if you have repined that image from any of the boards then you could be the winner.
