Facebook Partners With Operators For Free/Discounted Access To Messaging

Facebook has been continuously pushing its Messenger service for mobile phones. It is a significant step for the company as we have seen mobile chat apps like iMessenger, WeChat, Line and WhatsApp becoming increasingly popular among mobile phone users. These companies have been successful at attracting attention from the Facebook users on mobile, and are  constantly updating social-media-like features for their apps, Becoming a threat to the Facebook.
 
Recently Facebook partnered with 18 mobile operators worldwide to penetrate its messenger service  within the mobile communication zone. Facebook announced a deal to bring free and discounted data connectivity for its Messenger service. The idea is to give consumers a cost worthy alternative to SMS with added benefit and features, and also promotes the carrier data services.
 
With a database of 1 Billion subscribers Facebook says it will give its mobile users free or discounted data packages to the phone owners running android, iOS and its every feature phone app.
 
A number of carriers have backed chat apps in the past, such as WhatsApp, Line, BBM and WeChat, offering fixed monthly rates for unlimited usage. This has proven to be a success for the share-holders in an already saturated market. The vast network of users is the only key for facebook to secure its position as the most used social media platform on mobile. Thus making sense for mobile operators to support the servis.
 
Here is a list of 18 companies operation in 14 countries worldwide which announced their contract with Facebook:
 
Europe: TMN in Portugal, Three in Ireland, Vivacom in Bulgaria, Backcell in Azerbaydzhan, Tre in Italy

Asia: Airtel and Reliance in India, Indosat, Smartfren, AXIS and XL Axiata in Indonesia, SMART in Philippines, DiGi in Malaysia, DTAC in Thailand

Africa and Middle East: Viva in Bahrain, STC in Saudi Arabia, Etisalat in Egypt.

Latin America: Oi in Brazil
