Mark Zuckerberg is creating an AI to run his home

We all often make up some crazy New Year resolutions that are quite often simply impossible to keep. That being said, there are some people out there who not only achieve what they resolved to do but often end up doing better than the original resolution. Such an example of this can be found in the so called personal challenges Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, has been performing to broaden his horizons.

These personal challenges included him reading two books every month, learning Mandarin, meeting new people each day and so on. Now, it seems that he has taken on the challenge of creating a personal AI assistant. In a recent status update on his Facebook he said, “My personal challenge for 2016 is to build a simple AI to run my home and help me with my work. You can think of it kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man.”

Now, we all know creating an AI which acts something like Jarvis from Iron Man with our current technology can be a bit of a daunting task, however, this hasn’t dissuaded Zuckerberg who is fully adamant to find a solution to the many problems that are being faced by voice recognition software and artificial intelligence in general now a days. In his status update, he outlined his approach to these problems by stating, “I’m going to start by exploring what technology is already out there. Then I’ll start teaching it to understand my voice to control everything in our home — music, lights, temperature and so on. I’ll teach it to let friends in by looking at their faces when they ring the doorbell. I’ll teach it to let me know if anything is going on in Max’s room that I need to check on when I’m not with her. On the work side, it’ll help me visualize data in VR to help me build better services and lead my organizations more effectively.”

Obviously J.A.R.V.I.S does so much more than what Mark wants from his AI and to be honest that is pretty much possible with our current technology provided you are somewhat of a capable programmer, which we all can agree is category Zuckerberg falls into. Now, I know for most in the tech field, this isn’t much of an exciting news story, however, if he can build an AI that can carry a rapport with a human that will certainly be a breakthrough worth talking about. Till then, we can only wait and see what Mark Zuckerberg comes up with.
